Operating income margin for the three months ended March 31, 2022 was favorably impacted by the increase in revenue attributable to the economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic coupled with the effective management of certain operating costs, primarily labor and related benefits, disposal costs, and maintenance and repairs.
Our definitions of adjusted pre-tax income, adjusted tax impact, adjusted net income - Republic, and adjusted diluted earnings per share may not be comparable to similarly titled measures presented by other companies.
27 Table of Contents We believe that presenting adjusted pre-tax income, adjusted tax impact, adjusted net income - Republic, and adjusted diluted earnings per share, which are not measures determined in accordance with U.S. GAAP, provides an understanding of operational activities before the financial impact of certain items.
Other selling, general and administrative expenses increased for the three months ended March 31, 2022, primarily due to an increase in advertising and travel costs.
The favorable impact was partially offset by higher transportation and subcontract costs driven by an increase in volume.
