The decline in market interest rates negatively impacted the yields earned on securities and cash balances during both the quarter and the six months ended June 30, 2021, in comparison to the same time periods in 2020.
The decline in mortgage banking revenue in the second quarter of 2021 versus the second quarter of 2020 was due primarily to decreases in interest rate locks, sold loan volume and gain-on-sale margins.
As this business scales up, we expect it will drive increased earnings and profitability in future periods.
The increase in mortgage banking revenue was due mainly to higher gain-on-sale margins.
